Description: The Boston Public Works Department identified an opportunity to transform a small underutilized open space in the North End into a “pocket park”. Based on community input, it was decided that the area would be best used as a bicycle storage and repair area. Several decorative bike racks, a bike pump, and several small trees were included in the final design. A decorative asphalt surface was selected to emulate brick.

Description: Phase I – Millennium Park -. The park is a former landfill that has been converted into 100 acres of trails, ball fields, and picnic areas. It consists of six miles of handicapped-accessible walking trails, playing fields, a canoe launch, and a nature trail.

Phase II – The City of Boston is reconstructing the existing natural turf athletic fields located behind the West Roxbury Education Complex, located at 1205 Veterans of Foreign Wars Parkway, Boston, MA 02132.

Salt Shed – District 9

Neighborhood: East Boston

Description: PWD Bridges and Buildings Division was tasked with designing a salt shed for the District 9 yard in East Boston to protect the salt pile from the elements. PWD constructed a 70’x75’ salt shed at District 9 yard located on East Eagle St.  The pre-engineered structure consisted of aluminum parts to prevent erosion and the structure was placed on top of a precast concrete blocks foundation.  Read more…
